Y4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 8th September 2023

Friday 8th September– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

Wow, wow and double wow!  The new Year 4 class have made an impressive start!  This week, they have dazzled us with their artist skills, as well as their superb vocabulary and poetry crafting skills.  They have ‘bent it like Beckham’ in P.E. with their football skills!  Overall, they have been awesome!

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is a kenning?
  • What does it contain?
  • Where do kennings come from?
  • Tell me something amazing you can find in a rock pool?
  • Tell me an amazing fact about a creature you can find in a rock pool?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • The first day back it felt like the school family had got back together.
  • Creating my kenning poem and sharing ideas with my partner.
  • Painting in art with Mrs B.
  • Learning all about the creatures in a rock pool.
  • The excitement of Star of The Day and seeing who gets it.

Looking forward:

This week, the children will begin looking at a new book, which is going to be our launch point for the Exhibition.

In maths, we are going to start our unit of work on Place Value as well and starting to work on our timestables.

In the afternoons with Mrs Beardsworth, the class will start their work on mountains, looking at the world’s highest summits.  Also, classifying animals in science.  In R.E. the class will be looking at Islamic family life.

Homework in Year 4

Maths and English homework will start this week.

Holiday homework (material to decorate with the theme ‘Life’ is due in next week)

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.

Timestables – for Thursday - the children will be getting new timestables this week  - (these were given out on Friday with how many columns the children need to learn.)

(This can be handed it at anytime before Friday, the children know where the basket is)
