Y5 12.11.21 Weekly Update

Friday 12th November 2021 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

Well done to the children for a hard-working week in class. On Thursday, they produced some lovely poppy poems, based on the book ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’.

We have done some interesting work on WWII in our history lessons, looking at a timeline of British history and exploring the reasons why WWII began.

In maths, we have been studying lines graphs – this has been quite tricky, but the children have worked really hard on them and made great progress.

We’ve watched a few of the children’s homework presentations and they have been so interesting - thank you for all the effort that has gone into these!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed exploring the word ‘community’ in RE, and all the ways a Christian might feel a community helps them.
  • We liked spending time reflecting on Remembrance Day and making a poppy for display.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they can tell you the main events that led to the start of WWII.
  • Ask the children to tell you all about Neil Armstrong and the Space Race.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing our writing topic based on the book, ‘Where Once We Stood’. We are building our skills towards writing our own space mission narrative.

In maths, we will continue to look at data handling and statistics, before moving on to multiplication and division.

Don’t forget it is our parents’ evenings on Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th November, booking go live on the website on Monday at 7pm. The appointments will in-school for one adult.
