Y5 14.1.22 Weekly Update

Friday 14th January 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a lovely week in Year 5. We did some really useful e-safety work about sharing private and personal information online. In English, we started work based on the beautiful book, ‘FArTHER’. In maths, we completed our work on area and perimeter – the children did really well with this. In science, we explored properties of materials as a recap of past learning.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying the book, ‘Billy the Kid’, in our guided reading sessions.
  • We are loving working on ‘FArTHER’ in English.
  • We enjoyed learning about Ancient Greek theatre with Mrs Riddell.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you how to calculate the area of a compound shape?
  • Can the children tell you all about the information they shouldn’t share on line, and the difference between private and personal information?

Looking forward:

Next week we will be exploring figurative language in English. In e-safety we will be learning about the children’s ‘digital footprint’. In maths we are practising multiplication strategies. In our history work, we will be researching the differences between Athens and Sparta in Ancient Greece.
