Y5 15.8.22 Weekly Update

Friday 15th July 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a really busy week in Year 5. On Monday, we were visited by the Tiger haulage company. They gave us a very interesting talk about staying safe around HGV lorries, and showed the children how lorry drivers have a ‘blind-spot’ which makes it difficult to see pedestrians and cyclists.

On Thursday and Friday, the children have enjoyed two days of Bikeability. I hope they have found this very useful and they have a greater awareness of road safety. While one group were out on the roads, the other group made a moving toy using cam mechanisms.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed writing our own stories with a dilemma.
  • We found the presentation from ‘Tiger’ very useful.
  • We've loved doing Scratch with Mr Cowell (Mrs Cowell's son).

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they remember where a HGV lorry’s blind spots are.
  • Ask the children if they can remember the different parts of a cam mechanism.

Looking forward:

Unbelievably, we find ourselves at the last week of the school year. This has been a fantastic year and the children have been so hard working and incredibly enthusiastic. They have been a pleasure to teach.

Next week, we will be completing our local history topic work, and our science topic too. We will also be watching the Year 6 class perform their wonderful production.

Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be very hot - don't forget sunhats, sun cream and waterbottles! Children are allowed to wear PE kits into school on Monday aswell as Tuesday.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR US IN THE SHED OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Enjoy the weekend!
