Y5 18.9.20 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 18th September 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

I’ve been so impressed with the children this week. They are working so hard and really picking up the pace after being away from school for so long. In our literacy lessons, we have been exploring ‘Where Once We Stood’, a stunning book about the moon landings. The children have produced some great writing of their own already. We contacted the illustrator, Martin Impey, who wrote back telling us all about his work.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed ompleting our river collage and labelling the journey of a river.
  • We are enjoying the Wider Opps sessions and are looking forward to getting our instruments.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children to tell you all about the journey of a river using the key vocabulary we have explored.
  • Ask the children to tell you all about Neil Armstrong and some of the tasks he had to do on the moon.

Looking forward:

Next week, we are continuing our writing based on ‘Where Once We Stood’.

In maths, we will be moving on to look at decimals – adding, subtracting and ordering.

In our topic work we will explore the reasons why WWII began.

Wider Opportunities:

Letters will be coming home about the children’s instruments soon!
