Y5 18.3.22 Weekly Update

Friday 18th March 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

This has been a very hardworking week. The children have produced some fantastic writing based on The Hound of the Baskervilles – they seem to have really enjoyed this writing topic. In maths, we have be converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. In geography, we are currently doing some work based on the Burwardsley area and we have looked at road maps, and Ordnance Survey maps.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed looking at reversible and irreversible changes in science.
  • We found looking at quotes from the Qur’an really interesting.
  • We enjoyed learning about the different symbols on an Ordnance Survey map.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children show you how to calculate 10%, 25% and 50% of a number?
  • Can the children tell you why we might use a semi-colon in our writing?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will continue to look forward to our trip to Burwardsley with some interesting Geography work. We’ll also look at the Burwardsley area on Google Earth. In English, the children will be planning and writing their own mysterious story with a cliffhanger ending. In science, they will be exploring about why objects burn.

Enjoy the weekend. Any further questions or queries about Burwardsley, please let me know.
