Y5 21.1.22 Weekly Update

Friday 21st January 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

This has been a very hardworking week from the Year 5s. They have been doing some great work in maths, practising multiplication strategies. In English, they have been building up skills which will enable them to write a setting narrative. They produced a great piece of writing describing a stormy scene. In history, the children explored the differences between living in Athens and living in Sparta during Ancient Greek times.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed our e-safety lessons and found it useful discussing how we all create a digital footprint.
  • We learned a lot about thermal conductivity in our science lesson.
  • We are enjoying learning about Ancient Greek masks in Mrs Riddell’s Wednesday lessons.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children explain to you how to multiply a 3-digit number by a 2-digit number?
  • Can the children explain what thermal conductivity means?
  • Can the children tell you all about why the Ancient Greeks wore masks when they performed?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be writing our own stories based on the book, ‘FArTHER. In maths we will be moving on to division strategies. In science we will be conducting a thermal insulation investigation. In history, we will be exploring sources of evidence and how to assess the reliability of evidence.
