Y5 6.11.20 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 6th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

We’ve had a great start to the new half-term. The children did some tricky metric measures work in maths and showed a really great attitude.

In literacy lessons, we started a unit of written work based on the lovely book, ‘FArTHER’, by Grahame Baker-Smith.

In history, we explored rationing during WWII.On Wednesday afternoons, Mrs Riddell will be undertaking some design technology lessons with the children and they will be looking at some rationing recipes.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • It was interesting to learn about rationing and we can’t wait to bake a rationing cake.
  • We are really enjoying the book, ‘FArTHER’ and we are looking forward to writing our own story based on this.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children to tell you the golden rule for rounding whole numbers.
  • Ask the children to tell you what they learned about the Moon’s phases.

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be continuing to work on rounding in our maths lessons.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be doing some Remembrance work as part of the No Outsiders PSHE scheme.

Believe it or not, next week we will start to practise some Christmas songs in class – all will be revealed soon!

Wider Opportunities:

Children now have their instruments. I hope they have fun getting used to it and seeing what noises they can get out of it. Some might even be able to play a note!
