Y5 6.3.20

Friday 6th March 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have worked really hard this week. In our history work, they look explored a book by a local author who had written about her experiences as a child during WWII. We also investigated propaganda during WWII. In geography, we researched rivers near to Elizabethfontein in South Africa.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed looking at the information sent by Elizabethfontein about their local area.
  • We have enjoyed writing a diary entry for evacuation day.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what propaganda means and how it was used during WWII.
  • Ask the children to tell you about what village life was like during WWII.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be writing their final WWII diary entry, based on VE Day. In geography, they will be researching a local river, and a world river. In history, we will look at how rationing impacted on the country.

The children are now signed up to the Accelerated Reader programme.

Don’t forget, the children have access to Times-tables Rockstars and can be practising their times-tables at home if they are able to get on-line.

Wider Opportunities:

Keep practising ‘The Chicken Cluck Waddle’.

There will be the opportunity to demonstrate how much you know next week.
