Y5 19.11.21 Weekly Update

Friday 19th November 2021 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

A great week in Year 5 this week! The children have been working hard on our WWII topic and have been researching occupied Europe. In Science we have studied the phases of the moon, before researching the planets in our solar system. In maths, we have been looking at data handling and statistics, and the children have been problem solving with tables of information. Believe it or not, we have started rehearsing some Christmas songs – details of a Junior Christmas performance will be sent out soon!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We have enjoyed interpreting tables and graphs in maths.
  • We liked researching the solar system and learning about the planets.
  • We are really enjoying using the gymnastics equipment in PE.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they can tell you some facts about the planet they researched.
  • Can the children tell you the two reasons why we use apostrophes, and give you an example?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be writing an ‘exploration narrative’ – a story about being part of a team on a mission into space.

In science, we will be researching the work of two scientists - Copernicus and Galileo..

In maths, we will be working with prime numbers, factors and prime factors.

In Wider Opps, the children are working towards a little ‘progress performance’ which you will all be invited to. Information will be sent home soon.
