Y5 Weekly Update 22.3.24

Friday 22nd March 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. The children have been planning and writing a story based on the book, The Promise. They will complete this on Monday! In maths, we have just finished a topic on percentages. As a new concept, this has been quite tricky but the children have shown a fantastic attitude and done brilliantly. In science, we learned about the fire triangle. In RE, we had another interesting lesson exploring how artists have interpreted the word 'Salvation' in their work.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed researching the Sandstone Trail for our Burwardsley Geography topic.
  • We’ve done really well learning how to use percentages.
  • We are enjoying playing hockey in PE.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you where the Sandstone Trail starts?
  • Ask the children what the word ‘percent’ means.

Looking forward:

Unbelievably, we break up for Easter next week. Although only a short half term, it has still flown by!

We have a lovely PSHE No Outsiders lesson on Tuesday based on the book, How to Mend a Broken Wing – all about showing empathy.

In maths, we will be starting a topic on decimals, looking at strategies for adding and subtracting decimals.

In our English work, the children will be completing their story based on The Promise, and then publishing this in neat. They've produded some lovely writing in this unit of work.

Have a great weekend!
