Y5 Weekly Update 23.6.23

Friday 23rd June 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

What a brilliant week it’s been in Year 5. It’s been lovely to spend more time with the South African children around school. We have been amazed by their dancing skills and they have brought such a lovely positive energy to school. On Thursday, the class joined in with a wonderful piece of artwork in collaboration with the South African children and Mrs Goldsmith.

In class, we have started a new maths topic on position and direction which the children have been doing very well with. We continue to build up our writing skills using the book, 'King Kong' by Anthony Browne, as our inspiration.

In history, we undertook some interesting work comparing maps of Goostrey over the past 150 years and analysing how the village has changed.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We’ve loved dancing with the South African children and spending time with them.
  • We found the assembly with the monk from Thailand very interesting.
  • We enjoyed learning about Christian pilgrimages.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you all about Christian pilgrimages?
  • Ask the children all about their dancing with the South African children.

Looking forward:

On Monday, we will say a sad farewell to the South African children, who will depart for the airport after a last assembly with us.

The children will be writing their own ‘dilemma narrative’ based on King Kong.

In History, we will be looking at old census information from Goostrey and analysing what we can learn from this information.

Our RE work looks pilgrimages that might happen in the religion of Judaism.

Enjoy the weekend!
