Y5 Weekly Update 26.4.24

Friday 26th April 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5 and the children have worked so hard. We have started a really interesting history topic on the local area – this week the children have created a timeline of historical events in Goostrey. We started a new writing topic based on the book, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’ and we have been learning about adventuring in the wilderness. In science, we have had a little recap of previous learning, looking at the different parts of a flower.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed learning about music in religion.
  • It was interesting researching Goostrey’s history
  • We love ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what survival skills they have learned in our English lessons.
  • Can the children tell you the different parts of a flower and what they do?

Looking forward:

Next week, we’ll continue learning about survival and looking at the features of a survival guide – ready to write our own.

In maths, we continue to look at decimals and will be adding and subtracting numbers with different decimal places.

In science, the children will be learning about pollination and fertilisation of plants.

In our local history topic, the children will be looking at maps of Goostrey over time to see how the village has changed.

Have a great weekend!
