Y5 Weekly Update 8.12.23

Friday 8th December 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

Year 5 have worked really hard this week. They have had fun exploring rap poetry in English, looking at  the use of a rhyming structure and consistent syllables. In history we looked at ancient Greek beliefs, with the children researched an ancient Greek God. In RE, we had a lovely lesson looking at the background to the popular Christmas carol, ‘Silent Night’ – when and why it was written and how it became so popular. In science, we conducted an interesting investigation based on levers and how we can lift a 1kg weight with a 100g weight.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed wearing Christmas jumpers on Wednesday.
  • It was interesting to learn about levers in our ‘Forces’ topic.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they remember the history behind ‘Silent Night’.
  • Can the children to tell you all about the ancient Greek God they researched.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be learning about databases in our ICT lesson. In Science they will be learning about the cogs and levers used in the process of riding a bike. In Maths, we will be looking at calculating the perimeter of a shape. In English the children will be writing their own rap poem based on the Greek myth, Theseus and the Minotaur. We will also be practising carols and songs for the Christmas Service.

It's Y5s turn in the Christmas shop on Tuesday morning!

Have a great weekend!
