Y5 Weekly Update 9.2.24

Friday 9th February 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. We have done lots of interesting work and the children have had a great attitude. Every Tuesday, we undertake an arithmetic lesson where the children are presented with a wide variety of random arithmetic questions under timed conditions. The children have worked so hard in these lessons and their arithmetic scores have really gone through the roof – it’s great to see! Some of the children went to the Young Voices concert on Monday and came back buzzing about this event. The children left in class did an ‘egg box challenge’ – designing packaging to protect an egg. The results were predictably messy!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed the Henry Moore artwork with Mrs Riddell.
  • We found it interesting learning about the use of propaganda during WWII.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they have learned about databases from Mrs Cooper.
  • Can the children tell you how to convert a mixed number to an improper fraction.

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be studying formal language and how to write a formal report. In History, we will be learning about Alan Turing and codebreaking during WWII. In maths, we will continue our long fractions unit, looking at adding and subtracting fractions. In our science work, we will investigate separating materials and solubility.

Have a great weekend!
