Y5 Weekly Update 9.6.23

Friday 9th June 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It was lovely to see the children again after a sunny and warm half-term break. It’s hard to believe we are in our final half-term together!

This week we started our new text in English – ‘King Kong’, by Anthony Browne. This is an amazing book and I’m sure the children will love the writing we are doing based on it. In maths, we have continued our work on angles, calculating missing angles. On Monday, we did some important work researching the experiences of the Windrush Generation.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • It was interesting learning about Muslim pilgrimages in RE.
  • We enjoyed learning about the life cycle of amphibians.
  • It was thought provoking learning about the experiences of the Windrush Generation.
  • We can't wait for the South African children to arrive!!
  • Family discussion questions:
  • Ask the children to recap what they’ve learning about angles – acute, obtuse, reflex, right angle, straight-line angle, using a protractor.
  • Ask the children what they learned about the Windrush Generation.

Looking forward:

Next week we will be completing our angles topic in maths, we are then moving on to position an direction. In English, we will be continuing our work on ‘King Kong’, exploring language features and characterisation. On Monday, we will undertake another lesson on Windrush, with the children imagining a diary entry. We will begin a really interesting local area history topic too.

The children are so excited for the arrival of the South African children!

Don't forget the children need to be wearing the their colours for Sports Day next week.

Enjoy the weekend!
