Year 1 we 13th October

Hi All,

This week in English, the children will be continuing their writing non-fiction texts about animals found near the river. If you get the chance ask your child which animal they have researched, they should be able to share some interesting facts with you.

If you have the opportunity to explore non-fiction books with your child this would really support their learning and understanding.

Things to look at for could include:

  • The contents page
  • The index
  • Photographs
  • Captions
  • Diagrams with labels
  • How often books ask a question at the top of the page and answer it on the page.

In maths, we will be continuing our work on counting and using the >< = signs, we will be looking at problem solving using these signs.

On Topmarks website there are some great games – ‘dive for treasure’ and ‘chopper squad’ these are great for reinforcing our learning.

In the afternoon we will be continuing our work for the exhibition. We will composing pieces on the ocarina for the exhibition and collaging our animals.

Highlights of the week

  • Playing with my friends and playing on the astro turf.
  • Playing maths games on the computer.
  • Working with Mrs Goldsmith. Making the fish for the backboard.
  • Meeting Jane and doing the water activities (Jane was from United Utilities – see pictures on Twitter).
  • Painting my animal with Mrs Wheatley.
