Year 4 Looking Back and Forth 10th June

Friday 11th June– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children were extremely lucky to have the chance to work with Tippi's mum and Fiona, working artists, who came in to work with the children for the Platinum Plaque Project.  Hopefully, your children have been coming home buzzing about this exciting week of work.  The children created two pieces for two plaques, that will be on show at Goostrey Train Station.  The first one will be a Die-bond mosiac of all of the children's work.  The second, a plaque created from individual clay tiles that the children made.    We had Jake film the children working and also had students from HCHS in as well to support the project.

This was a trully amazing project and would not have happened without the hard work and vision of Tippi's mum, Mrs Goldsmith.  Although the children have completed their part of the project, we know that there is still a lot to finish and input from lots of different people.  Including more artists as well as students from MMU.  We can't thank Mrs Goldsmith enough for letting us get involved in this super community project.

Building On

  • clay work from previous years
  • hand to eye coordination
  • sense of community
  • working with other professionals

Questions to ask at home

  • What was your favourite part of the project?
  • Can you describe your tile?
  • What was the welcoming word that you put on your tile?

Highlights of the week for the children

  • Platinum Plaque Project
  • creating coins for the mosiac
  • working with clay
  • haikus
  • geography work on mountains
  • maths - working with decimals
  • P.E. Athletics

Looking forward:

On Friday, the children will complete their MTC (Multiplication Timestables Check).  This will be a short activity taking place in the morning.  Please could you encourage your child to complete short daily bursts of practise, just to keep their skills sharp.  Thank you.

The children continue to work on their new books.  The Lost Happy Ending and The Lost words.  Both beautiful and thought provoking books.  They will continue their work on decimals (although we are nearing the end of that particularly unit of work).  They will continue their project work on mountains as well in the afternoons.
