Year 4 - Looking Back and Forth Friday 10th November

Friday 10th November – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have been learning about the key features of a biography.  They have explored the language features as well as the structure of a biography.  In maths, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10. 100 and 1000.  This is a tricky concept, the children have worked hard on this.  If your child feels not as secure as they would like to be ?  Here is a BBC bitesize video which could help.

How to round numbers - BBC Bitesize

This is a super video and activity that could support your child.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • When you round to the nearest 10, what number do you look at?
  • When you round to the nearest 100, what number do you look at?
  • When you round to the nearest 1000, what number do you look at?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • It was a unanimous conclusion. The class loved learning about George Mallory.
  • Creating branching databases
  • Listening to our visitor Reverend Broad.

Looking forward:

This next week, the children will be exploring ice in science as part of their states of matter work.  Look at how stop-frame animation works in Computing.  The class will start to create their mountain dioramas.

Homework in Year 4

Maths – Orange sheet

English – adverbs and fronted adverbials

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Acelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.

Timestables – for Thursday – This week our new timestables will be x11 x3 x6 x18  timetables for 4 weeks – this will be week 1

(Homework can be handed it at anytime before Friday, the children know where the basket is)
