Year 5 Looking Back and Forth Friday 14th July

Friday 23rd June– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children completed their recounts of a family’s journey fleeing from a war-torn country to safety.  The children tried hard to empathise with the characters and wrote power action sequences.  They continue to ‘bowl us over’ with their impressive vocabulary and willingness to explore different word play techniques.  We carried on looking at shape, in particular the properties of quadrilaterals and triangles in maths.  Bikeability was a great couple of sessions, enjoyed by all, despite the weather.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is personification?
  • What repetition did you use in your writing?
  • What are the properties of a polygon?
  • What are the properties of a quadrilateral?
  • What are the differences between equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right-angled triangles?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • Art with Mrs B
  • Bikeability
  • Pop Art
  • Playing with my friends
  • Geography – looking at Europe
  • TTRockstars
  • Measuring in maths

Looking forward:

This week, the class will be completing end of year assessments and making sure all is finished before we break up on Thursday.

It has been a joy and privilege teaching the class this year.  They're a great bunch and we have enjoyed our Year 4 journey with them.

There has been mountains of tough work and fun along the year.

Thank you for being a great class and thank you families for your continued support throughout the year.

Homework in Year 4

NO HOMEWORK

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.

Timestables – for Thursday - the children will be getting new timestables this week  - (these were given out on Friday with how many columns the children need to learn.)
