Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 18th November 2016

Year 6 Week-in-Review Friday  2016

Our week in review is a little different this week, it’s brought to you courtesy of ‘Rockin’ Robin’ and ‘Amazing Amelie’ who’ve composed the ups and ups of life in Year 6.  Before we hand over to them, we’d just like to say “Thank You” to our parents for coming along to chat at parents’ evening.  It was great to meet with you all and feedback about your child’s learning.

Our Year 6 have chosen their Marble Jar treat – some extra time with their buddies, so we have decided to have a small celebration on Friday 28th November.  Nothing too elaborate: if the pupils need to bring anything in, we will let you know in plenty of time.

Whilst we are on the theme of celebrating, we have one eye on Christmas-time and gifts for our buddies.  In the spirit of fairness, if the Year 6 wish to purchase a gift for their buddies, we respectfully request that a limit of £10 is adhered to.  Sometimes, the gifts that are handmade are particularly effective.  The purchase of a gift is not compulsory.

So, over to our class reports for the week, Rockin’ Robin & Amazing Amelie

This week in class we have looked at many different things with many different teachers:

On Monday, we did Guided Reading, followed by Mathematics, in which we learned about conversions and line graphs.  In the afternoon, we looked at the features of ‘The Highwayman’, such as metaphors, similes and powerful verbs.

On Tuesday, we had our lesson on Mathematics with Miss Atkins, our head teacher, with our usual three different groups, Mrs Livingston’s, Miss Atkins’ and Mrs Cuttle’s.  Then, in the afternoon we handed our HOMEWORK to Mrs Cowell. We learnt about Charles Darwin and evolution.

On Wednesday, we did relative clauses linked to the poem we have been learning about,  “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes. French was next, after lunch, we learned new vocabulary, such as “poupee” which means “doll” in French.

On Thursday, we spend the afternoon understanding and celebrating our “British Values” day and we moved around the junior classrooms, mixed up in our houses.  This was great fun.

We finished the week with Tag Rugby taught by the Premier Sports teachers and we had Buddies in the afternoon.  They are the best buddies ever.  We also bought delicious cakes to support Children in Need.

Have a look at the photos under our "Gallery" tab to see some of our learning in class.

Rockin’ Robin & Amazing Amelie’s “Questions to ask your son/daughter this week include”:

What is doll in French?

What is a relative clause?

What is 5 miles in kilometres?

What is a metaphor?

What is KFC? (if they are in Mrs Livingston’s group)  We’ll all find out next week.

Kind regards

The Year 6 Team & Rockin-Robin & Amazing Amelie
