Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 12th November 2021

Y6 – Friday 12th November  2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Parents’ Evenings – We are so pleased to be able to offer face-to-face appointments shortly.  The booking system will be open from 7pm on Monday 15th November.  Appointments may be booked online or via the School Spider app.  Please do see page 6 of this week’s newsletter for full details.

Please note that for the Autumn appointments, Mrs. Timmins will lead these as Mrs. Cowell will lead the Year 4 appointments with Mrs Cooper.  Mrs Cowell will join us for the Spring meetings.  If any family would like specific information from, or may have a question dedicated for, Mrs Cowell, please email either of us at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.  We are looking forward to meeting with you in person.

We have really been engaged in our learning this week with many exciting and interesting and poignant sessions within class. We are enjoying reading about the first expedition of Charles Darwin and the voyage of discovery he undertook.  Maths has seen us complete a section dedicated to “Number” and we have now moved onto Fractions.  Science has seen the class considering the theme of “Evolution and Inheritance” which mirrors our English about Darwin brilliantly.  On Tuesday afternoon, the class studied Native American history whilst listening to the music from this history.  The imaginary lines of our Earth led the geography teaching and time in French completed the week.  Mr Biggs’ PE lessons were a special hit with many as the apparatus made a very enjoyable welcome to the week.  As one pupils said on his way out of the session “That was soooooooooooooo fun!”

Finally, we are proud of the “Remembrance” display that Mrs Cowell organised for our Year 6 window.  On Thursday, the class sat mesmerised as we followed the dream of Harry Billinge in his quest to have a permanent memorial for Britain’s achievements on D-Day built in Normandy.  We watched a short BBC clip of Harry when he was finally able to visit.  To say this was an emotional time of the week is an understatement – a few of us had “something in our eyes”.  What an inspirational gentleman.  The class were amazed at his story.
