Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 15th September 2023

Y6 – Friday 15th September 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Our first full week in school has flown by and we are now beginning to work towards a range of topics – some for the Exhibition in October which will be here before we know it.  Our class book that we are sharing is the excellent “The Flower Boy” by Keith Campion and we are enjoying getting to know our main characters already.  Maths is focusing on place value and we are calculating with numbers up to 10,000,000 (wishing we were reading our bank balances – Hee! Hee!).  We have already been looking at characteristics within science and even our hat study has begun.  It’s going to be a very busy term.  Please do keep checking our website each weekend – next week, we hope to include some photos from our lessons, too.  Thank you for helping our pupils settle into Year 6 so brilliantly.

Letters issued Y6:

Information about homework for Mrs Timmins issued on Friday – email and paper copy.

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • KS    Mrs Cowell’s science on Charles Darwin

Family discussion questions:

  • What are the names of the two characters in “The Flower Boy” and what was the name of the lady’s husband? How long had they been married for? They were one year short of which anniversary and who would have sent them a card/telegram?
  • Tell me about Ernst Haeckel and what he is noted for?
  • What does “survival games” involve?

Looking forward:

  • We are excited to know that we shall be meeting our buddies this coming Friday. A text message/email was sent over the weekend as a heads up so that pupils may begin collecting photos, pictures, stickers, etc. in order to decorate a “welcome card” in school, on Friday morning.
  • There will be letters issued this week about our upcoming visit all about “Crucial Crew”. Full details of this will be in the letter.
