Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 19th November 2021

Y6 – Friday 19th November 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Parents’ Evenings are next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  The online booking system is now closed but if you still wish to make an appointment please contact Mrs Timmins.  Thank you

Looking back:

This week, the class has been busy in planning for a “discovery” in South America; we are preparing to write our exciting discovery narrative next week – keep an eye out for these in the coming weeks.  Fractions have been the focus for maths and we have really been challenged with our reasoning questions – see a couple of the photos of some of the children working well together to find the answers.  They really do work so well on problem solving.

Science has begun to build on the children’s learning of evolution with inheritance being a focus for the lessons.  The pupils worked in the hall too, (photos in our gallery) to work on timelines and they completed a “Top Ten Facts” for geography.  The PE sessions with Mr Biggs are a big hit with the junior apparatus really challenging their physical skills, strength and balance and of course the week was finished off with a buddy session.

Finally, many congratulations to Year 6 who, on Friday, filled their marble jar.  We have lots of suggestions for a treat so we’ll choose that, empty the jar, and start to fill it all over again on Monday.

Letters issued Y6:

Family discussion questions:

  • Which animal have you chosen to include in your discovery narrative and can you recall its scientific name? g. the toucan is “Ramphastidae”.
  • How many of this week’s “Top Ten Facts” can you remember from Geography?
  • Can you name a significant landmark in Canada?

Looking forward:

  • Firstly, we are looking forward to meeting with you at your parents evening. As stated in the newsletter last week, we are requesting that one parent attends the meeting, after a negative lateral flow test, and that masks are worn on entering and leaving the building.  It will be lovely to have the face-to-face time to discuss how your child has settled into Year 6.
  • For the children, we are excited to be writing our narratives based on Darwin’s adventures on HMS Beagle. We will be extending our work on fractions too.  Science will see us continue with evolution and our other foundation subjects will build on the work completed this week.
