Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 4th February 2022

Y6 – Friday 4th February 2022 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

A super week in Year 6 – we have completed our writing of flashback narratives – the pupils have produced writing to an amazingly entertaining – and emotional – standard.  We hope to share these with you at some point.  Maths has seen the topic of Algebra cause some good discussions as we have honed our knowledge of function machines and begun to study mathematical “expressions”.

Skara Brae has been our focus to support our learning around the Stone Age; our knowledge of coding for ICT has been developed further; and we enjoyed our RE and hat work with Mrs Riddell on Thursday.  We studied the anatomy of a hat!

Letters issued Y6:

No letters; email issued regarding SATs information evenings

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • IM RE with Mrs Riddell
  • SC Studying the anatomy of a hat
  • FC Writing our stories
  • LP Maths
  • OK PE – basketball
  • EF Skara Brae research
  • LP Electronics in science

Family discussion questions:

  • Tell me about the anatomy of a hat. What are the different parts called?
  • Where in the country is Skara Brae and what was life like for those who lived there? How do you know?
  • In maths, what is an “expression”? Can you give an example?

Looking forward:

  • We are moving on with our learning in lots of ways but mostly we are looking forward to having everyone back with us in class. We are almost at the half-way stage for Year 6 and we continue to enjoy working with this class each week.  They are really good to be with.

SATs meeting 1 will take place at 3:45 in the Year 6 classroom on Monday 7th February.  Thank you to those who have booked onto one (of two) meetings.  For those unable to attend, a full handout of information will be passed onto your child, and posted onto the Year 6 class page.  Thank you
