Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 7th January 2022

Y6 – Friday 7th January  2022 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

A very “Happy New Year” to all our pupils and their families and welcome to our Spring Term 2022.

We’d like to start with a huge thank you to you all for your very kind Christmas cards and gifts.  We have all enjoyed spending time with our families – staff and pupils alike – and this came through when we chatted about our holidays on Wednesday.  The children have returned in a really positive frame of mind and we’ve already been working hard towards our new topics.

We have enjoyed working on “geometry” this week with our knowledge of position and direction very much improved.  English has seen an introduction to our new text “A Story Like The Wind” by Gill Lewis and our first lesson took us clue-hunting around the playground.  Science has seen us working on new vocabulary to support our learning and we have been looking at hat designers – milliners – for our D&T subjects.  Finally, it was lovely to see our buddies once again – they are still boundless in their energy and we enjoyed spending time with them.

Letters issued Y6:

No letters this week

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • SC Looking at the hat designers and their creations
  • LP Maths – the coordinates work has been fun
  • FH Learning about the four quadrants and coordinates
  • EF English

Family discussion questions:

  • Who are Steven Jones and Philip Treacy?
  • Can you name the eight people (and the dog) who are huddling in the boat?
  • What is the name for the point (0,0) on the coordinates grid, where the x-axis and the y-axis cross over?

Looking forward:

  • We are going to be finding out more about the journey our people are experiencing in our new story and discussing why they are in the boat.  Maths will take a turn towards reflections then decimals whilst our afternoon topics will also be developed further.  Please could families keep an eye on the news updates this year as there will be lots of information regarding upcoming dates and topics - such as SATs revision & homework; transition; etc.  We will post all key information on here, as well as information about your child's learning with us.  Thank you.
