Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 8th September 2023

Y6 – Friday 8th September 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

‘Welcome to Year 6’ to all our new pupils and families – we are thrilled to be working alongside you as the class enjoy their final year of primary school.  We have lots of exciting projects and events planned for the year ahead and we have cracked on this week with a super start to the year.  Each week, we will update the website with news reviews and – where possible – lots of lovely photos so that you can see what our children are learning about.

Thank you to those who joined us for our “Welcome” meeting on Friday afternoon, especially as the weather was so glorious.  For those who were unable to make this, a paper copy of the information will come home with your child on Monday and a downloadable version will be available on our class page from Monday, too.  This week, we have begun to consider what our new class book will be – all to be revealed in the coming days.  Our maths lessons have started with 7-digit place value and our foundation work has started too.  The class enjoyed their first PE session with Sports Coaching on Friday afternoon: Mrs Murdoch took charge for some fantastic football sessions.

Keep an eye out for some information coming out in the next few weeks, including new reading records, an upcoming visit (in October) to “Crucial Crew” and a Kingswood letter.  The first homework has been issued to our pupils – please check out the ‘Homework’ tab on our Year 6 page.

What a busy, but exciting, start to our new school year.

Letters issued Y6:

No letters this week

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • LMM Learning about temples in RE with Mrs Riddell
  • MG Coming back to school to see my friends
  • KS Maths – revising numbers to one million
  • LD Making the Peace and Respect signs
  • RB Maths

Family discussion questions:

  • What can you tell me about temples – where might they be found and what happens there?
  • What is 7Up in school and who runs this? (clue – it’s not a fizzy drink, or a card game)
  • What has been your favourite thing about Year 6 so far?

Looking forward:

  • We are beginning our Exhibition work this week – more details to follow in due course. Our PE sessions will continue on Fridays: please can pupils remember to come in their kits each week.  There will be information coming out regarding reading records and the first maths homework will be issued on Tuesday.  Further details are below.
