Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 6th November

Friday 6th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week in our English, we have started a new book.  It is still a mystery, as to which book we are using.  So far, we have only viewed some of the pictures and have been puzzling out the contents of the book from those illustrations.

We have been working on fronted adverbials, as well and using them effectively in our writing.

In maths, we worked hard on Roman Numerals.  We found this work particularly tricky, remembering all of the rules.  It seemed a good idea to work a little more on this, so we were all a lot more confident with it.

In the afternoons; we completed some beautiful work about Remembrance with Mrs Riddell.  We learnt the  Jerusalema dance, for South Africa’s Heritage Day with Miss Oakes.  We started our new topic in science on states of matter.  In geography we conducted some research about the Himalayas and Everest.  In computing, we had a very exciting lesson being journalists, in a simulated newsroom.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What happened in the newsroom?
  • What was the ‘breaking news’?
  • What else was happening in the news?
  • What Roman Numerals can you remember?
  • Can you show me the Jerusalema dance?
  • What are the three states of matter?
  • What are the properties of solids, liquids and gases?
  • Tell me three things you know about the Himalayas?

Looking forward:

This week there is a TTRockstars competition called ‘Rockon 2020’.  We will be working super hard to get top spot for the school.  Come on Year 4, we can do it!

We will continue to work on our new book (still a mystery), we will be writing our own version s of part of the book, using the illustrations as our starting point.  We will start to look at addition and subtraction in maths.  In geography, we will begin to look at Everest in more detail and the perils that are faced by climbers, who attempt to summit the mountain.  We will begin to plan and make our Everest dioramas.

We will have our second timestables test, this time  they will be in random order.

Homework in Year 4
