Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 12th January 2024

Friday 12th January – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have come back really well.  We have hit the floor running with a new book in English.  Anglo-Saxons is the topic in the afternoons.  This is a super topic and one we think the children will really get engrossed in.  In maths, the children have begun a unit of work on multiplication.  TTRockstars has helped the children approach this unit with confidence.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What did you do with the micro-bits this week?
  • What do you know about the Anglo-Saxons already?
  • What is the new book in English about?
  • Who is Mr Gum?
  • Are you confident with your seven timestable?
  • What is the connection between your 3, 6 and 9 timestable?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • Creating a stop-frame animation with the mountain dioramas
  • Reading
  • The first session of My Happy Mind, which was all about Appreciating
  • Working with our friends on the stop-frame animation
  • Working with the microbits
  • Learning about the Anglo-Saxons
  • Completing the pre-learning about Anglo-Saxons
  • The cake sale
  • In My Happy Mind, we learnt to about appreciation of things, people and also ourselves.

Looking forward:

This next week, the children will be learning about the different kingdoms in the Anglo-Saxon era.  They will also be creating a rock, paper, scissors game with the micro-bits.  In R.E. the class will be studying Judaism and the story of Moses. In the mornings, they will continue to explore the new book and timestables in maths.
