Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 19th November

Friday 19thth November – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back: The children worked hard on their biographies.  We have been inspired by Rose on ‘Strictly’, so with this in mind, chose Ashley Fiolek to write about.  The other person we chose to write about was Raheem Sterling.  We had read a lot about him in our work on Black History Month and wanted to continue with our biographies work, as he lives just down the road practically!   In maths, we have been looking at exchanging in addition and subtraction.  (borrowing in old money)   The children have been rehearsing for the carol service as well as exploring states of matter with Mrs Cooper.

Building On

  • In science, building on the work the children did on materials in the infants.
  • Maths work, building on the work in Year 3 where they exchanged 3 digit numbers (now we are exchanging with 4 digit numbers as well as problem solving with them).
  • The inspirational people work the class did with Mrs Sant last year. We have looked at inspirational people who overcame adversity.

Questions to ask at home

  • Who is Ashley Fiolek?
  • Who was our inspirational person of the week? Why?
  • What does exchange mean?
  • What did you learn in science this week?
  • What did you do in gymnastics with the Premier Sports coaches?

Looking forward:

This week, the children will be editing and publishing their biographies.  In maths, we will be looking at efficient methods for addition and subtraction.  These are super checking methods.    In science, the children will be exploring changing states, which I don’t want to give too much away on, needless to say is a lot of fun!      The class will also be learning about the physical geography of Europe.

Homework in Year 4

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
