Yr 4 Looking Back Forth - Friday 8th December

Friday 8th December – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have published their mammoth biography writing.  It was an epic task, but they have smashed it!  This week we starting to read a new adversity narrative.  This time instead of going up, this person is definitely going down!  Ask you child all about the person.  In maths, we have been looking an area.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • Who is the Queen of the falls?
  • Where are Niagara Falls?
  • Why is one of the falls called Bridal Veil falls?
  • Who is Annie Edson Taylor?
  • What did she do?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • Publishing our biographies
  • P.E. in the morning – doing cartwheels
  • Planning and preparing the animations
  • Reading the book ‘Queen of the Falls’
  • Buying raffle tickets for the hampers
  • Counting squares for area in maths

Looking forward:

This next week, there will be more rehearsals for the carol service to ensure the children know the words.  In science, the children will finish their work on changing states.  In geography they will be learning about the mountain ranges in South Africa.

The children will also be going to the Christmas Shop on Tuesday.

Their Elf Run will be on Friday, as they will be in their P.E. kits anyway.

Homework in Year 4

Maths – orange  sheet

English – GAPS mat and fronted adverbials

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
