Looking back:
This week, was a fantastic first week back. The children impressed us greatly with their attitude to work. We started the week working on a lovely book by Sally Grindley and Michael Foreman, called ‘Peter’s Place’. We read the story and created kennings poems, as well as painting beautiful shells. These shells now adorn the wall in the classroom, so already the children have made a beautiful mark in Year 4.
Questions to ask at home
- What is Peter’s place like?
- What is a tanker?
- What happens to the tanker in the story?
- What is a mountain range?
- Can you name one of the mountain ranges in the world?
- Why is there an apostrophe in Peter’s Place?
Highlights of the week for the children
- Geography – looking at the mountain ranges
- Maths – working on place value
- Looking at a new book in English
- Painting shells in art and using watercolours
- Creating our thumbs up – Respect work
- Writing a kenning in English
Looking forward:
This week, the children will be completing some assessments. We will continue our work on Place Value in maths, mountains in geography and begin our new books in English. 'Boys who dare to be different' and 'Goodnight stories for rebel girls' are two fantastic books crammed with people who are inspirational. Using these books we will be looking to write biographies.
Homework in Year 4
Maths– Unit 2 yellow sheet
English – Punctuation sheet (40 mins max if your child does not complete the sheets in the allocated time, it is fine.)
Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes
Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
Spellings – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday. It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night. The children remember them better learnt over the week.
Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.
